Environmental noise can profoundly affect animal welfare and research outcomes. In this webinar, Pralle Kriengwatana will introduce newly developed guidelines on sound management in animal research facilities, commissioned by the Flemish Government Department of Animal Welfare.
Topics include:
• Basics of sound measurement and perception
• Hearing in common laboratory species (mice, rats, pigs, chickens, zebrafish)
• Sources of sound in research facilities
• Evidence on the effects of noise on welfare indicators
• Practical recommendations for acoustic monitoring and noise management
