The programme of the Joint 3R Symposium is available on the event website. The Symposium brings together (inter)national experts who will acquaint you with the most advanced 3R-alternative methods in various biomedical research disciplines. The organisation of the Joint 3R Symposium hopes for your numerous attendance and warmly welcomes you on 19, 20 and 21 September. Registrations for the event are currently open on the website. Don't forget to submit your abstract by 15 July!

In Brussel worden jaarlijks meer dan 90.000 proefdieren gebruikt voor verschillende wetenschappelijke en onderwijskundige doeleinden. Het gebruik van proefdieren staat echter onder druk door wetenschappelijke, ethische en economische bezwaren. Als gewest waar tal van academische en institutionele laboratoria gevestigd zijn, is Brussel hierop geen uitzondering. 

Waar staan we vandaag de dag met het gebruik van proefdieren en dierproeven? Welke alternatieven bestaan reeds vandaag of zijn in ontwikkeling in het Brussels gewest? Hoever staan we met de oprichting van een centrum dat de toepassing van de 3 V's (vervangen, verminderen, verfijnen) in het wetenschappelijk onderzoek bevordert? Over deze thema’s en meer willen Leefmilieu Brussel en RE-Place je op de studiedag op 27 maart 2023 informeren en inspireren met interessante praktijkvoorbeelden. Onder de binnen- en buitenlandse sprekers mogen we rekenen op een panel experten en universitaire wetenschappers alsook vertegenwoordigers van verschillende Europese instellingen (o.a. de Europese Commissie). 

À Bruxelles, plus de 90 000 animaux de laboratoire sont utilisés chaque année à diverses fins scientifiques et éducatives. Cependant, l'utilisation d'animaux de laboratoire fait l'objet de préoccupations scientifiques, éthiques et économiques. En tant que région abritant de nombreux laboratoires universitaires et institutionnels, Bruxelles ne fait pas exception. 

Où en sommes-nous aujourd'hui avec l'utilisation des animaux de laboratoire et l'expérimentation animale ? Quelles alternatives existent déjà aujourd'hui ou sont en cours de développement dans la région de Bruxelles ? Où en sommes-nous dans la mise en place d'un centre qui favorise l'application des 3R (remplacer, réduire, raffiner) dans la recherche scientifique ? Sur ces sujets et plus encore, Bruxelles Environnement et RE-Place souhaitent vous informer et vous inspirer avec des exemples pratiques intéressants lors de la journée d'étude du 27 mars 2023. Parmi les intervenants nationaux et internationaux, on peut compter un panel d'experts et de scientifiques universitaires ainsi que des représentants de diverses institutions européennes (dont la Commission européenne).

In line with Directive 2010/63/EU, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2019/1010, the Commission will make publicly available EU level statistical information on the use of animals for scientific purposes, collected by the Member States and submitted to the Commission on an annual basis. In addition to giving open access to these data through the ALURES Statistical EU database, the Commission provides an annual summary report of the data submitted by Member States.

A new manuscript about the RE-Place project has just been published in the Research topic ‘3Rs - Strategies for Reduction and Refinement of Animal Studies’ in Predictive Toxicology. This manuscript describes the evolution of the project, the development of the online tool to collect specific information on the use of NAMs in a fast and consistent manner and the current status of the open access database in Belgium.

The RE-Place project is collecting all available expertise on the use of alternative methods to animal testing in Belgium. The project is funded by the Flemish and Brussels government and aims to provide a reliable overview of the different NAMs that are currently used in the life sciences. It also provides the contact details of experts and research centres where these techniques can be learned. Submit your expertise now via the RE-Place website
